Starting your first job can be an exciting new opportunity. You get to showcase your skills, learn new things and meet new people. Plus you get paid for it!
For some people it can be quite scary, especially if you have only recently graduated. As you learn more about your job, your organisation and the people you work with, you’ll feel more comfortable and start to fit in. Your first day will probably be spent doing paperwork, learning about the organisation and your new role. Make sure you have your Tax File Number and bank account details with you.
Once you start working, your employer will usually have to make contributions to a super fund for you. These contributions equal at least 9% of your ordinary time earnings. Unless you can nominate/choose your own super fund, these contributions will go into your employer’s default fund.
We hope you will be an active participant and make choices relating to your super (where you can).
When you join us, your super is automatically invested in our Lifecycle strategy. You can change your investment option anytime you want (up to twelve times a year)!
If eligible, we also provide automatic insurance cover when you join. Even, if this is your first job and you have no dependants, consider whether this is enough insurance cover for you. It is particularly important that you cover yourself adequately in the event of accident or injury. You can apply to change your level of cover at anytime as your life changes.
If all of this seems too big to consider by yourself and you feel like you need help, you might want to consider contacting Health Super Financial Planning. They can provide you with access to a qualified Health Super financial planner at a reduced rate.
