Additional cover

Whilst we make it easier by automatically providing eligible members with some automatic insurance cover, you can still increase your insurance to suit your lifestyle needs.

Depending on your age, health and medical history and the amount of insurance cover you need, you may be asked to provide additional information or undergo medical examinations for the Insurer to assess your application for additional insurance cover.

While any application for additional cover is being assessed, the Insurer will provide interim Death by accident and TPD by accident or interim Disablement by accident cover. You must have at least $1,000 in your account. The sum insured is based on the level of cover applied for (subject to a maximum of $1,500,000 for Death and TPD and $10,000 per month for Income Protection).

Cover is provided from the date a fully completed application for additional cover is received by the Insurer until the earliest of:

  • your application is accepted or declined by the Insurer
  • your application is withdrawn
  • expiration of 120 days from the date the Insurer receives your fully completed application form.

This cover is not available for applications to reduce the Waiting Period or increase the Benefit Period for Income Protection Cover.

Once your application has been accepted by the Insurer, we will confirm in writing the amount of cover that the Insurer has agreed to provide.

If you would like to increase your cover, you must have a minimum account balance of $1,000 to apply for additional insurance cover.

Life events cover

If you’re eligible for Death and Total & Permanent Disablement (TPD) insurance cover, you have the option to apply for additional insurance cover linked to significant life events. For instance, you may want to ensure you have increased insurance cover when you get married, take out a mortgage, or when you have a child, because your financial commitments have probably increased.

To make it easier for you when you’re experiencing certain ‘life events’, we allow you (if eligible) to upgrade your level of insurance cover without having to submit lots of paperwork or undergo medical examinations.

You can receive additional units of cover for Death only or Death and TPD cover for the following life events:

Life events cover is not available if you have fixed cover.  If you wish to take advantage of this option you will need to switch from fixed to unitised cover.

Additional premiums will be payable for any Life events cover that is granted – an extra $0.80 for every additional unit of Death cover or an extra $1.33 for every additional unit of Death and TPD cover.
